Bring your AI study buddy.
Your group and your AI tool can work on the same board. Select your notes, ask for a summary and next steps, then review the suggested changes together.
1. Invite it from your board
Open a board you own, choose AI → Connections, and give your collaborator a name. Copy its connection token while the panel is open. Each invitation lasts 24 hours and works on that board only. New invitations require a human to review changes.
2. Connect your AI tool
Use a tool that supports an MCP server with bearer-token authentication, such as Codex. Add the server address shown in the invitation and use the token as its authentication credential.
Connect with the Codex CLI
Set the invitation token in the
COLLABBOARDS_AGENT_TOKENenvironment variable before starting Codex. Then run:codex mcp add collabboards --url https://collabboards.com/api/mcp --bearer-token-env-var COLLABBOARDS_AGENT_TOKENStart a new Codex session so it can load the connection. Keep the token in the tool’s credential configuration; it does not belong in a board note.
3. Select notes and queue a request
Turn these project notes into tasks. Keep unknown assignees and deadlines empty.
Select up to 12 saved text notes, open AI → Assistant, and choose your connected tool. Queue the request, then copy the handoff instruction into your AI tool. Requests wait until the tool picks them up; CollabBoards does not automatically wake or run it.
Choose Turn into tasks to prepare that request. Suggested task cards can include a status, assignee label, calendar deadline, course, and checklist. You can also add a task yourself from the board toolbar. Assignee labels do not grant access or notify anyone.
4. Review before applying
The assistant returns a summary with source references and a preview of proposed notes, task cards, or text edits. Review the task fields and checklist before selecting the changes you want to apply. Collaborators see the saved changes on the canvas. If a source note changed while the agent worked, start a new request with the latest selection. If the response was interrupted, retry the same review safely.
You choose what lands
New invitations read selected request context and propose additions or text edits. They cannot approve their own work or delete notes. Older direct-access invitations keep their original read/add permission, clearly labeled in Connections.
See what happened
The request activity shows confirmed context fetches, submitted suggestions, and reviewed changes, with links to the cards. A connection becomes offline after 45 seconds without an update. AI labels stay on accepted contributions.
You control the invite
Disconnect an agent at any time in the AI panel. Up to three invitations can be active on a board.
Your connected AI tool supplies the model and follows its own account limits. Selected notes and your instruction are shared with that tool. Requests and approval history remain with the board; they are not sent to analytics. No new AI subscription is required by CollabBoards.
